oh god.

5 months since i’ve been on this thing! sorrysorrysorry. there’s been a number of reasons, the main one being university. boooo. i started this blog in the summer and so once the semester started i just didn’t think about it! plus, my laptop charger broke and ebay have messed me around royally so now i’m borrowing my housemates as she has two laptops, i’ve been doing exams throughout january and now semester 2 has started i have labs so i’m in til 5 every day. plus, i’m working two jobs! busybusybusy! there’s barely been any time for games! (actually that’s a lie, i got new vegas for christmas and played that religously for a while instead of revising!)

oh, yeah, and me and my boyfriend renewed our world of warcraft subscriptions, so that didn’t help. ;)

You haven’t gamed unless you’ve called someone a Black Gay Jew

I’m not homophobic, anti-semitic or racist in the slightest, nor am I condoning this language so please don’t get me wrong - but this is so funny, because I have heard it myself and I’m sure you have, too.

I don’t even know what to say about this. Boys paying girls to play video games with them? How incredibly pathetic. And that goes for guys paying guys, girls paying girls and girls paying guys too, ofc. Part of me wants to sign up to be a “playdate” for the fun of it, if boys are stupid enough to do it then it’s their problem, surely? But then I remember I have some sort of dignity and in no way am I that sort of girl. Interesting idea though, kudos to the brains behind the site - exploit the idiots for all they’re worth I say!

Replaying Toy Story 2 for the PS with my best friend. For some reason among Resident Evil, Silent Hill etc. we find great joy in children’s game. Whether it’s because we don’t need to concentrate the same, we’re playing with characters we loved in films as children or that we can genuinely enjoy it without secretly being scared to death half of the time, I’m not sure.
One thing we know that we love about them is the level based format and the fact that there is the option to complete the game to 100%. I’m thinking Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot-esque here. You play the levels and you can finish the game just by whizzing through them, however, you have the option to go back and do each level several times to get all of the collectable objects from each level. Usually to compelete it to 100% you do have to go back as you unlock new moves as you progress through the game that must be used in earlier levels to complete it fully.
Having a game like this adds a fantastic replay value, providing you liked the game in the first place, but it does risk being tedious at times. However, the thing about games like this is that you want to complete it to 100%! Even though we know that we can complete this game with 40 Pizza Planet tokens, we still want to get all 50, and that’s knowing that there is nothing extra when we complete it. We just want the internal satisfaction, and I think that is a good sign of a good game.
So, pray tell. What do you think of games like this? Do you have a favourite? Do you complete it to 100% or just finish the storyline?

resident evil 5.

::spoilers::

replaying this through with my boyfriend at the moment to get him the platinum and i forgot how much i loved it. i’m addicted to the resident evil series and played 5 to death when it came out, getting the platinum for myself, then my best friend, completing it with my bf and then playing the online expansion to get those trophies as well (which amounts to alot of game time when you have to win 120 online games overall)!

i know the game has changed a fair amount from when the series started - there are no zombies which is the obvious thing, and i remember being outraged when i first heard RE4 wasn’t going to feature them; i felt they were the essence of the game! yet thinking realistically obviously advancements would be made in that amount of time and it’s not hard to make a virus, or parasite as the case may be, more successful than the g-virus!

there’s much more diversity in the game play and settings now. the orginal game was set within a mansion, and the second and third within a city, and everything was very similar. now, i love the diversity in the levels. 5 starts in a village, then moves to mines, marshlands, an oil factory, ancient temples and finally a ship, before randomly ending in what appears to be a volcano …

the replay value is also better now. the game has been sectioned into chapters meaning that you can replay the sections you enjoyed without having to go through the entire game. there’s also treasures and emblems to find which you would NEVER get all of them on the first go on your own.

these days i’d say the games can be split into different groups. it’s clear that it’s now less survival horror and more action, and it’s not made the game better or worse in my opinion; just different. if i fancy playing a survival horror i can go back to the first handful of games which i still own, if i want more action i can play the more recent games.

now, the future. RE6. i’m petrified. i can’t lie. the only thing we know is that it is a complete reboot of the series (entirely new characters and plot lines). i understand why this has to be done, as we’ve seen each character many times and their time is admittedly up. the series’ main antagonist albert wesker finally met his demise - much to my grief ): (yet my boyfriends joy, who doesn’t approve of the carbon fibre outfit he seems to support or his annoying monologues), yet at the same time i feel it can’t be resident evil without the characters we’ve grown to love over the past 14 years! i said that about zombies though, so with a little luck i’ll be proved wrong and i’ll love it.

what do you think, are you are RE fan? prefer the old or new games? looking forward to RE6?

anyway, i’ve been trying to think of video game characters with pink hair? i’ve got lightning from ffxiii obv., but that’s not the bright pink i was trying to think of. any help?

This is great, I have a guy who just reached puberty and a chicken-wuss in my team.

Hahaha, yes!
On that note, let it be said that I cannot wait for Fallout: New Vegas, or the MMORPG, of which I did sign up for the beta testing but I never get picked for these sorts of things. :l
I was looking over FO:NV the other day, and so far I’m liking the “reputation” system (like found on wow). It should be more realistic than karma as the whole point is if people know you for doing good things for them and their town, then you have high reputation with them, then you get gifts. Unlike with karma that can be obtained from anywhere, yet somehow people still know what you’ve been up to …
The thing that really excites me however, is the “Hardcore mode”. Which is what, you may ask?  Well, it makes the game ultra-realistic, and factors in all these things; Stimpack heals over time, only doctors can heal crippled limbs, you have to eat, drink and sleep, and ammo has finally entered the realm of reality and has weight. Now, I don’t know if it has to be unlocked or anything, but I do know this mode is going to add awesome replay value. Plus, there’ll be no more questioning why the characters do not need to eat/sleep/drink? And what exactly is IN the magical healing item that cures you from the brink of death to the fittest you’ve ever been in the blink of an eye?
Then, ofc, given that FO3 was an AMAZING game, and FO:NV is keeping alot of the features from that, I don’t think there is any doubt that this game is going to be fantastic. :)

Am I the only girl in the world who DOESN’T get shit for playing games?

I swear, guys might be a tad suprised and then find it kinda cool, but never are they nasty or anything. Either other girls are exaggerating so they feel discriminated against and have a reason to whinge, you know, like women do, aha, or I’m just really lucky.

This blasphemy is probably the next thing to be announced by the rumor mill that is screaming full speed ahead of the RealID changes on the World of Warcraft forums by Blizzard.

Go and read this post. Now. I was going to write something very similar but this has been done so well I now don’t feel the need to.

I particularly enjoyed the part about female gamers feeling that they’re going to get stalked. Thinking a bit highly of themselves, are they not? And I agree whole-heartedly that it is no way to get rid of the female gamer stigma (see my previous post for more on this “girl gamer” thing, aha.).

So, I just logged on to have a poke around and see what was going on before deciding whether to renew my subscription via the encouragement of other tumblr users, and I found this. Now, this excited me and scared me, ofc I am going to accept them, probably right after this post, but I also fear that it may devour my soul. I was never addicted like you hear really obsessive people become, but I did play casually for a good 8 hours a day at times, sometimes much much more. :L
I’m not going to lie, I am actually excited to play again. I have a warlock level 77 so I should really push her to 80, but I want a new character also. So, if you don’t hear from me for a week, then this is why.
